Christian Social & Cultural Alliance
ABOUT US
Christian Social & Cultural Alliance was founded by Aleksandr Karakuts in 1998 in Moscow, Russia. CSCA was created in a number of stages: first, we held classical and folk music concerts in Moscow for all individuals. After being contacted by blind and disabled individuals, we began visiting them in their homes and preached to them about Jesus Christ. Over time, there formed a group of blind people who wished to study the Scriptures and finally, we founded the first church in Moscow for the blind "Insight".
Today, our service consists of the following: in-home visiting and material assistance to the needy; assistance in carrying out operations to restore vision; visiting blind and disabled individuals in hospitals; aquiring food, medicine, wheelchairs, and other items that help with rehabilition; providing the blind and visually impaired with mp3 players and discs with Christian audio books; conducting worship services on Sundays and during the weekdays; and finally, we organize Christian musical concerts and poetry readings for those who do not attend our church and charity events.
CSCA recently began working with a local orphanage that houses blind and disabled children. We provide these children with food, clothing and other life necessities. We also host musical concerts in which these children are able to perform. Please visit out Gallery to see images of one of these concerts.
Disabled people in Russia are deprived of a lot of things in this life: in the material sphere - low pensions put them on the brink of extinction; many of them cannot leave their apartments and for this reason, have little or no communicatioin with the outside world; in the cultural sphere - they cannot read books, attend cultural events, and they only know the world through television; finally, in the spiritual realm - they cannot go to church, read the Bible and get answers to many of life's questions. For these reasons, CSCA was created to help blind and disabled individuals.
Russia now has about 15 million persons with disabilities of which 212,000 are members of the All-Russian Society for the Blind (VOS). In Moscow, there are 1,200,000 persons with disabilities of which about 10,000 are members of the Moscow branch of the VOS.
