Seven years ago, with God's help, we helped Vladimir Belikov do surgery on his left eye. The operation was very complex and lasted for 2 hours. Only through fervent prayer of the church was the surgery successful and he was able to see with one eye by about 40%. Vladimir now needs surgery on his right eye, which will be held in late June at the Department of Experimental Eye Surgery Institute in Moscow. The surgery will be even more difficult than the first but he, along with the church, believes in God's help. Vladimir, like many of our blind, believed, received Holy baptism and is now a member of the church "Insight." Currently, neither the church nor Vladimir Belikov have sufficient means to pay for the surgery, which costs approximately $1,500, including stay in the hospital. However, we believe that the Lord will provide us with all the things necessary to do the surgery. We ask all of our friends to join us in prayer for the success of the surgery. And also, if you have the opportunity, you can help Vladimir by donating funds towards his surgery.

In our office, sponsored by the WHO, we celebrated Candlemas. Every Wednesday we hold meetings for the blind, but this Wednesday was special. The blind individuals were able to meet new friends and communicate with old friends. The musical group that performed was from the Baptist church in Kuzminkah. Their soulful singing created a reverent atmosphere in which listeners were able to listen to spiritual truths. They learned about the true biblical sense of celebration; about how there was a meeting with the God of Simeon and the rightous prophetess Anna, and that such an encounter with God begins the Christian life of every believer. At such meetings with the blind and disabled, we never arrive empty-handed, knowing how hard these people live with their disabilities. This time we have prepared special gifts, thanks to our generous friends. One Christian sister who worked in the hosiery business, learned about our ministry and sent us a package with socks. And our fellow beekeepers of the Samara region sold us, at a discounted price, honey. Because of this, we were able to give each blind and disabled person a jar of honey and a pair of socks.

A charity event in the Society for the Blind at the last meeting before the summer break. In the summer, our members leave for medical treatment to sanatoriums and resorts. We wanted them to spend the summer with a positive attitude, so we prepared for them a concert of sacred music and gave gifts to the members of the Society for the Blind.

We acquired a wheelchair with an electric drive for Stepan Ivanovich Belsky who, due to diabetes, has not only become visually impaired (sees with one eye), but also lost two legs. He lives on the 12th floor and almost never goes outside. Recently, Stepan's wife died and he is all alone in their apartment. We have long had a desire to give him a wheelchair with an electric drive, because he, moreover, has a sore right arm and moves around the apartment with great difficulty in a normal wheelchair.

With our organization's assistance, Konstantin Menshikov's mother was able to have surgery. Konstantin's own vision is only 1%, and, according to doctors, no medicine can help him with his illness. His mother was also blind. We decided to try and help his mother so we invited her to Moscow (she lives in Vishny Volochyok) for examination in the Sechenov Institute at the Department of Experimental Surgery of the eyes. We strongly prayed for doctors and for this operation and God did a miracle! The operation was successful: a mother can now see her son, Konstantin. There were a lot of happy tears when a blind son and his now-seeing mother testified about their experiences in our church.

News From Around the World

12.12.2011

In Iran, the court-sentenced guided ancient principle is: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". In 2004, Majid Movahedi, a student at Tehran University splashed acid in the face of his girlfriend, Ameney Bahrami, because she refused to marry him. The terrible fluid, causing unbearable pain, completely corroded her eyes and disfigured her face. Her former beauty was gone . Ameney had to undergo 19 operations. In the future, surgens can restore Amen's eyebrows and eyelashes, remove the terrible scars, and insert dentures that mimic the eyes, however, no operation can ever return her vision. The Tehran court offered Ameney compensation in the amount of 20 thousand euros, but she flatly refused, saying that she needed only his eyes. The court agreed with the arguments of the victim and issued an unusual sentence: Ameney herself will have to drip 20 drops of acid into each eye of the man who tormented her, which will make him blind forever. Six years passed after the sentence but Amemey never carried out the sentence. Majid's parents constantly called Ameney, begging her for mercy, saying that they were willing to work for her all their lives only so that she would keep their son's eyes and not pour acid into them. But Ameney was adamant and asked, "For how much money you are willing to sell me your eyes ?"
